Overview
Before a student can participate in Open Campus, the student must be granted the appropriate permissions.
Student permissions determine who is eligible to generate Open Campus verification codes and participate in your school's Open Campus program.
Because every school has different eligibility requirements, administrators can configure student permissions to support their local policies.
Before You Begin
Before assigning student permissions:
- Open Campus has been enabled for your MyFlexLearning site.
- Student records have been imported into MyFlexLearning.
- You are logged in with Administrator permissions.
- Your school has established its Open Campus eligibility requirements.
Understanding Student Eligibility
A student's eligibility to participate in Open Campus is determined by the permissions assigned by your school.
Depending on your school's implementation, eligibility may include:
- Parent or guardian authorization
- Grade level
- Academic standing
- Attendance requirements
- Other school-defined criteria
Only students who meet your school's eligibility requirements should receive Open Campus permissions.
💡 Tip
Review your school's Open Campus policy before assigning permissions to ensure students meet all participation requirements.
Procedure
- Navigate to Users.
- Locate and open the student's record.
- Select Edit.
- Assign the appropriate Open Campus permissions based on your school's eligibility requirements.
- Save your changes.

Parent Authorization and School Permission
Some schools require both parent authorization and school approval before a student can participate in Open Campus.
During implementation, your MyFlexLearning analyst will help configure Open Campus to align with your school's policies.
For example, your school may require:
- Parent authorization before participation.
- School approval based on attendance or academic standing.
- Additional eligibility requirements established by your administration.
After Student Permissions Are Assigned
Once a student has been granted the appropriate permissions:
- The student may participate in Open Campus during approved periods.
- The student can generate verification codes during eligible Open Campus periods.
- Student activity is recorded in Student Events.
Granting student permissions alone does not make a student eligible to check out. The student must also be scheduled into an approved Open Campus period or class.
⚠️ Important
Student permissions and scheduling work together. A student must meet both requirements before they can generate an Open Campus verification code.
Best Practices
💡 Review student eligibility at the beginning of each semester.
💡 Remove permissions if a student's eligibility changes.
💡 Periodically review Open Campus permissions to ensure they reflect your school's current policies.
Troubleshooting
A student cannot generate an Open Campus verification code.
Possible Causes
- The student has not been granted the required Open Campus permissions.
- The student is not scheduled into an approved Open Campus period.
- The student is attempting to check out outside the approved time window.
Resolution
Review the student's permissions and schedule to verify that all Open Campus requirements have been met.
A student should no longer participate in Open Campus.
Resolution
Update the student's Open Campus permissions to reflect your school's current eligibility requirements.
